I Want A Phone I Can Slam!

Slamming down a phone receiver at the end of an angry conversation used to be so satisfying.

Today's phones don't get slammed. They get tapped. At the most, they get poked. This may explain the poor mental health of some of us inside our community.

But don't you hate not being able to smash a phone down in fury?

Remember that wonderful feeling when thick plastic met thick plastic? Fury and action came together as one. It was noisy, aggressive and wonderfully final.

Hanging up today is so blah. We gently tap or swipe a piece of glass. It’s passive. It's lame. That’s what it is.

Modern phones aren't built to take such punishment. Slam any of them and they'll break. Break one, and you're off the air, not to mention up for an expensive repair. Maybe that's why everyone is so uptight all the time. They can't slam their phones. The tension just keeps building and building.

Let me tell you, I've slammed many a chunky phone in my time — and I’ve punished them good.

The shelves they sat on broke before the phones did.

A phone would fall to the floor, and its handpiece and curly cord would land in a heap beside it a second later. I'd pick up the phone, and slam it another time (just to make sure it was done right).

It felt so liberating — and I NEVER needed to replace a phone due to my old-world assertiveness. Today’s phones give up just looking at them.

What about you? Do you miss the good old phone slam days? Have we gone backward with the tappy/swipey phones of today?
